This challenging extension project transformed a two-storey 1980s holiday home into a permanent residence that honours its original design while integrating modern construction and environmental sensitivity. Built on a bushfire-prone, rocky site with difficult access, the work retained existing landscaping and minimised site disturbance by employing manual excavation.
The new southeast-facing living room pavilion leverages bushland views, complemented by raked ceilings and a harmonious connection to the original structure. Featuring additional insulation, fire sprinklers, and external rollershutters, the home blends concrete block cladding, copper accents, and slate tile roofing to achieve a modern yet robust aesthetic that respects its natural surroundings. The result is a uniquely characterful, sustainable family home with seamless integration into the environment.
A delicate blend of original charm and modern design, this bushland home extension combines sustainability and thoughtful construction, offering a character-rich, environmentally integrated family space.
