Since launching in June 2010, Blue Eco Homes has been recognised locally, regionally and nationally for its innovation and quality, and commitment to the environment and community.
We are proud of our achievements, and honoured by the recognition we have received from the industry and our peers.
Our industry awards include:
We were successful in two categories:
The 2011 MBA Awards recognised our work in commercial construction, involving the transformation of an old workshop located at the top of the Leura Mall shopping precinct, into the environmentally-sustainable and popular wine bar/restaurant, ‘Leura Garage’.
Leura Garage’s owner/operator, James Howarth, was suitably excited about his restaurant’s award-winning construction.
The MBA Awards are the commercial building sector’s highest achievement, with nominations received from the majority of large construction companies in NSW. Competition is especially strong in the commercial sphere, where “only the best in commercial construction are honoured” (see MBA website, and pages 2 & 18 in 2011 Award section for project details & judges’ comments).
We achieved top honours for our landmark Blue Eco home at Winmalee, Blue Mountains, in the following two categories:
The MBA of NSW Excellence in Housing Awards is the premier event in the residential building industry calendar, attracting around 800 industry participants. The Awards “showcase the best in residential building, rewarding quality, workmanship and innovation”.
The HIA-Boral “GreenSmart” Awards set the benchmark in Australia for progressive building techniques and products.
The award for ‘Water Self-Sufficiency’ recognised the integrated use of rainwater, grey water and black water at our Blue Eco home in the Blue Mountains. The judges noting that “water tanks and the garden were superbly incorporated with the design of the house”.
These awards are open to all businesses in the Blue Mountains region, as well as Biznet (regional Chamber of Commerce) and Blue Mountains Tourism members. The criteria for the Awards are based on triple bottom line sustainability principles - recognising economic, environmental and social engagement factors.
We were extremely proud to receive the Harry Hammon Award for the region’s best business in 2011.
