Blue Eco Homes arose out of Joe Mercieca’s vision to build homes that were environmentally sustainable. With a 26-year career in the Australian building industry, Joe established his own construction business (Joe Mercieca Constructions P/L) in 2003 operating in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. This has now evolved into the establishment in 2010 of a specialist environmentally-focused building arm – Blue Eco Homes. The name “Blue Eco” refers to our company’s base in the Blue Mountains of NSW, our commitment to innovative ‘blue sky’ thinking, and of course the fact that we build eco-friendly homes. Wherever possible, Blue Eco Homes uses local tradespeople to encourage good work practices and to support the local community. Joe Mercieca Constructions/Blue Eco Homes is a Member of Blue Mountains Biznet (i.e. the local Chamber of Commerce).
Joe Mercieca’s industry experience spans both residential and commercial construction. His experience includes all aspects of architectural work, ranging from new houses through to renovations and additions. Prior to establishing his own business, Joe worked for Paynter Dixon Constructions as a Site Manager, including projects of up to $48 million. Major projects Joe managed during his career with Paynter Dixon include Blacktown Workers Club, Coffs Harbour Ex-Servicemen’s Club, Rooty Hill RSL Club and Hills Grammar School. In his own business, Joe has applied his leadership skills to high-quality residential constructions in the Blue Mountains – expanding this into commercial construction in 2008. Joe has been a member of the Master Builders Association of NSW since February 2000.
Merylese Mercieca has been responsible for the company’s business operations working on a part-time basis since 2003, with responsibility for office administration, financial management and marketing. She joined the company full-time in 2010, leaving a distinguished career in nursing. Most recently, she was a Clinical Nurse Consultant for Respiratory Inpatients at Sydney’s Nepean Hospital. Merylese holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in Health Science from the University of Western Sydney, and has been a member of numerous health-based Working Groups and Committees. As a senior nursing practitioner, Merylese understands well the importance of time management, operational efficiency, and client service and delivery.
